Aprilaire® Offers Environmentally-Friendly Whole-Home Humidifier Uses 100 Percent of Water and Virtually No Electricity

Allows homeowners to reduce energy consumption by setting back thermostat

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Madison, Wis. (April 23, 2008) – Whether building a new home or simply tackling projects on the current one, conserving the earth’s natural resources is on everyone’s minds.  Aprilaire, a recognized leader in the indoor air comfort industry, recognizes the need of water and energy conservation and is offering environmentally-conscious homeowners a whole-home humidifier that utilizes 100 percent of the water in the unit, uses virtually no electricity and helps conserve valuable energy resources by allowing for the setback of the thermostat two to three degrees, without noticeably feeling the difference.

The new technology behind the Aprilaire Model 400A drainless humidifier is the use of a wicking water panel, which allows for 100 percent of the water in the unit to be utilized in the evaporation process with virtually no standing water.  It also incorporates a unique patented water delivery system that eliminates the need for a reservoir and only needs eight ounces of water to operate, making it the most environmentally friendly humidifier on the market.

“According to the Environmental Protection Agency, a family of four uses 400 gallons of water every day,” said Dennie Plomedahl, product manager for Aprilaire.  “Being able to conserve whenever possible is important.  The Model 400A minimizes water use, requires no drain, has virtually no standing water, and provides the benefits of humidified air throughout the whole house.”

The benefits of using an automatic whole-house humidifier include:

1.     Comfort – helps eliminate dry nose and throat and itchy skin, while also reducing static electricity.
2.     Well being – optimum humidity levels can help reduce the chance of upper-respiratory problems caused by dry-air.  Ask your doctor.
3.     Preservation - proper humidification levels will protect against shrinkage and cracking in furniture, moldings and hardwood floors.

A whole-home humidifier also allows homeowners to reduce the thermostat setting two to three degrees, without noticeably feeling the difference.  According to the Environmental Protection Agency, by lowering the thermostat by just one degree during the heating season has proven to save as much as four percent in energy costs.  When teamed up with a programmable thermostat, which studies say can save another 18 percent on heating costs, the Aprilaire Model 400A humidifier could make quite on impact on a homeowner’s heating bill and on energy resources.  For example: if the thermostat is programmed for 70 degrees when the home is occupied, it could be lowered to 68 degrees when using a whole-house humidifier without feeling a noticeable difference.

“Most people don’t realize that when moisture is added to hot dry air, the human body actually feels warmer at lower temperatures,” said Plomedahl. “By adding a whole-home humidifier to the heating system, homeowners will not only feel more comfortable all winter but they can also lower their energy costs.”

The Model 400A offers continuous automatic control of the humidifier and provides the optimum level of relative humidity by monitoring and responding to both outdoor temperatures and indoor relative humidity.  The automatic set-it-and-forget-it control keeps the home’s humidity level exactly where it should be throughout the heating season.
