About

Open Compass is a unique player in online education in that it focuses on crowd-sourced, community-oriented online education that is open to students and teachers. Our public MOOC platform allows anyone with a passion to share their knowledge and enthusiasm online.

Open Compass fundamentally differs from all existing MOOCs in that we are a nonprofit and entirely community-oriented. Our goal is altruistic: to make education freely accessible to everyone, and to facilitate freedom of sharing passion and knowledge within our community. Furthermore, although our online platform is our main focus, we also intend to combine traditional and nontraditional education with classes that happen simultaneously online and in real life, including ongoing university classes.

We know that the idea behind this model works based on our 2+ year long experiment built on these same ideals, University of Reddit. Open Compass is a philosophical continuation of the spirit of that experiment but offers a sophisticated and fully-featured platform that includes live lecture streaming, automated curation of generated content, full course management software, and, perhaps most importantly, an environment that fosters the growth of a community built around learning from one another.

We have a vision of what open education could and should be, and we are pursuing it to the best of our abilities.
