About

The mission of the Parks and Recreation Department is to provide and protect outstanding natural, scenic, cultural, historic and recreational sites for the enjoyment and education of present and future generations. We are one of the most popular state park systems in the United States, serving more than 40 million day visitors and 2 million campers a year. We also manage the State Historic Preservation Office, archaeological services, scenic bikeways and waterways, and the popular Oregon ocean shore on an 2-year budget of less than US$200 million derived from tax-free sources.
