“At The Center for Law & Mediation, we pride ourselves on providing cost-effective mediation
services to all of our clients. Our firm specializes in family disputes, consumer and employment
conflicts. Our mission is to act as a neutral facilitator, providing a forum in which the parties can
reach a “win-win” settlement,” said Beaton.

A long-time trail lawyer, Beaton is an advocate of mediation. “The parties control the outcome of
the dispute,” says Beaton, “... they take ownership of the final contract of resolution or mediation
agreement.”

Under the terms of an agreement to mediate, the parties retain the right to have an attorney advise
them. Further, the discussions in mediation are confidential. Each party avoids the risk of public
judicial decision which might be contrary to their initial positions and interests.

Mediation can help resolve many types of disputes such as civil rights violations, consumer
complaints, neighborhood disagreements, allocation of business or personal finances, elder law
issues and disability related complaints. Of course, mediation requires clients to take a certain
amount of responsibility for the outcome of his or her case. Each party must come prepared to
exchange information regarding the dispute as thoroughly as possible. It is the mediator’s job to
help the participants find a common ground.

The Center for Law & Mediation, P.C. aims to work with the court systems to bring resolution to
many disputes with th help of attorneys and judges. “Our hope is to give the over-burdened court
system a break while putting the responsibility for a resolution in the hands of the parties.”
