About

The Paula Takacs Foundation for Sarcoma Research was founded in 2010 in Charlotte, NC to raise funds for sarcoma research. The foundation partners with Carolina Healthcare System's Levine Cancer Institute and Levine Children's Hospital to fund the sarcoma research program at these entities.

Sarcoma is a cancer of the bone and connective tissue, such as muscle, nerves, fat, and cartilage.  This cancer represents approximately 1% of adult cancers and 15% of pediatric cancers, and is severely underfunded by the National Cancer Institute and other government sources.  Private funding is desperately needed in order to improve quality of life and survival rates, which have remained at about 50% for over 4 decades.
