About

Phyllis Harbinger, ASID, CID has been running Design Concepts/Interiors, her own design firm, since 1993, servicing both commercial and residential clients in the New York Metropolitan area.  She is as comfortable working on a suburban residence as she is in a sleek, modern city apartment dwelling.  In fact, the variety of locales and clientâs styles is exciting and fuels her creativity.

Approach to Clients
One of the main goals of her practice is to involve the client in the creative process.  It is important that a space reflects the personality, needs and desires of its inhabitants, not merely the tastes of the designer.
Currently, Ms. Harbinger is working on two 9000 sq. foot residential projects and has just been asked to makeover a room for a teenager in remission from Cancer who is unable to leave home to attend college next year.  The Make-A-Wish Foundation of Westchester County sponsors the project.  She is also one of the designers who participated in the ASIDNYMetro/ Scarsdale Womanâs Club Designer Show house in May 2005,

Teaching and Other Activities
Ms. Harbinger is a New York State Certified Instructor and an Adjunct Professor at the Fashion Institute of Technology where she currently instructs first year Studio Design courses.  It is very important to Ms. Harbinger to âgive backâ to the students what she received during her own academic experience.  She encourages her students to believe that they can accomplish anything they set their minds to.

This combination of design education and private practice allows Ms. Harbinger to enhance her skills and stay extremely current on design trends, codes and technology, while also creating a unique opportunity to share her valuable knowledge with her clients.  She participates in continuing education courses in Interior Design and Computer program skills.  Ms. Harbinger is also a Certified Feng Shui Practitioner, allowing her to integrate Eastern methods and theories of design and balance into her current practice.   She is NCIDQ certified and a professional member of the American Society of Interior Designers, in addition to being a NYS Certified Interior Designer.
