Activity courses are offered, for those who want to combine Italian courses with a special activity. Furthermore it is also possible to book only the activity. Therefore these courses are very popular with couples and friends, who have different interests.

Sailing through the fantastic and picturesque Aeolian Islands on a 22 meter long wooden boat combined with professional Italian lessons onboard.

Special courses

For those who are young at heart we offer the “Silver-Active-Language Course”, which is specially designed for the target group 50 +.
Duration: 14 days

Also available are Italian language courses which place special emphasis on the vocabulary used in the tourist industry, hotel business, commercial Italian for import/export, medicine as well as Italian art, literature and history.

We also offer a preparatory course for the C.I.L.S. examination of the University of Siena. This certificate of Italian as a foreign language is recognised by the Italian Foreign Trade Ministry. The examinations are held two times a year. Our examination preparation consists of one extra hour of individual instruction every day which may be added to all types of course.



Antonio Lamantea founded the Italian language school in Tropea, originally known as the Caffè Italiano Club, in 1993.  In 2004, the Italian Ministry of Education, University and Research Department officially recognised the school as an accredited Italian language school and the name was changed to the Piccola Università Italiana. The Piccola Università Italiana is one of the few certified Italian language schools in Italy and the only certified language school in Calabria.  Our concept is to immerse the student/vacationer, as much as possible, into southern Italian culture to facilitate the acquisition of Italian reading, writing and speaking skills under the tutelage of qualified native Italian speakers.

The staff at the Piccola Università Italiana will arrange pleasant accommodations during your stay and will arrange transfers to and from Lamezia airport or the train station. If required, we would also be pleased to help with flight bookings.
