Pickleball Individual Player Rating (PIPR) is a skill-based rating and verification platform designed to measure individual pickleball ability rather than relying solely on match outcomes or partner-dependent results. PIPR was created to give players, instructors, leagues, and organizers a clear, consistent, and verifiable way to understand true playing skill.
Players begin by completing a quick online assessment that evaluates rules knowledge, strategy, and core on-court competencies. Based on this assessment, each player receives an individual PIPR rating along with a digital PIPR card that includes a unique verification link. This card can be shared and confirmed online for leagues, open play, instruction, and tournaments, providing immediate credibility and transparency.
PIPR is designed to reflect how a player actually plays the game, independent of variables common in doubles play such as partner skill or matchup imbalance. Ratings focus on individual capability, creating greater stability and clarity across different playing environments.
In addition to online assessments, PIPR enables participating pickleball instructors to conduct standardized, instructor-led evaluations. These evaluations allow players to validate, maintain, or update their ratings as they improve, while giving instructors a structured, billable service they can offer year-round. The system supports ongoing engagement through re-evaluations and skill progression.
Available worldwide, PIPR provides a portable, skills-first rating framework that supports the continued growth of pickleball at every level—from recreational play to competitive environments—by giving the sport a shared language for individual ability.
