About |
Pro Gamepad Tester is a free browser-based gamepad diagnostic
tool built for gamers, developers, and controller repair
enthusiasts who want accurate, real-time hardware data from
their gaming controllers.
The Problem We Solve
Most gamers discover controller problems the hard way. A
character drifts on its own. A button stops registering mid
match. A trigger feels inconsistent, but you cannot tell if
the issue is hardware or the game itself.
Testing inside a game is unreliable for diagnosis. Games apply
dead zones that hide small drift values. They buffer inputs and
process them through sensitivity curves. By the time a result
appears on screen, the original hardware signal has passed
through multiple software layers.
Pro Gamepad Tester bypasses all of that. It reads raw input
data directly from your controller using the Web Gamepad API
built into every modern browser and displays it on screen
exactly as the hardware produces it. What you see is what your
controller actually sends.
What the Tool Tests
Thumbstick Axis Values
Both thumbsticks each report two axes, left X, left Y, right X,
and right Y. All four display as floating-point numbers between
1.0 and -1.0. Release both sticks completely and observe the
resting values. A healthy controller rests at or near 0.00 on
all four axes. Any persistent non-zero reading confirms drift
and tells you exactly how severe it is.
Values between 0.00 and 0.02 fall within normal manufacturing
tolerance. Values between 0.03 and 0.05 indicate early wear
that games may still hide through deadzone filtering. Values
above 0.05 indicate active drift that competitive games will
register as unintended movement. Values above 0.10 indicate
significant drift requiring immediate repair.
Analog Trigger Values
L2 and R2 on PlayStation, LT and RT on Xbox, and ZL and ZR
on Nintendo Switch all report values from 0.0 at rest to 1.0
at full press. Pull each trigger slowly and watch the value
rise in the tester. A healthy trigger shows a smooth
unbroken curve with no flat spots, sudden jumps, or failure
to return to 0.0 on release.
Button States
Every button on the connected controller lights up the moment
you press it and clears the moment you release it. Any button
that fails to register on press has a confirmed hardware
contact failure at the component level, independent of any
game or software variable.
Supported Controllers
PS5 DualSense, PS4 DualShock 4, PS3 DualShock 3, Xbox One,
Xbox Series X and S, Nintendo Switch Pro Controller, and any
standard USB or Bluetooth HID gamepad from any manufacturer
including 8BitDo, Logitech, Razer, Hori, and PowerA.
Supported Platforms and Browsers
Works on Windows, macOS, Linux, and Chromebooks. Fully
supported in Chrome, Edge, Firefox, and Opera. No driver
installation required for most modern controllers.
How to Use It
Connect your controller via USB or Bluetooth. Open the tool
in your browser. Press any button once to activate the
connection. All inputs go live immediately. The entire setup
takes under 30 seconds.
Who Uses Pro Gamepad Tester
Gamers confirm controller health before competitive sessions
or tournaments. Players diagnose stick drift before deciding
whether to repair or replace a controller. DIY repair
technicians verify their work before reassembling a
controller. Game developers check raw axis indices and
button mappings during input system development. Buyers
inspect used controllers before purchase to confirm hardware
condition objectively.
Our Commitment
Pro Gamepad Tester is 100 percent free with no subscription,
no premium tier, no account requirement, and no usage limits.
All input processing happens locally in your browser. No
controller data, axis values, or button states are ever
transmitted to any server. What happens in your browser
stays in your browser.
