About |
**The Redundancy Brief** is a UK redundancy information resource covering statutory rights, entitlements, and the practical steps employees need to take when their role is made redundant.
The site is organised around the moments that matter: the first notification, the consultation period, the notice period, the final calculation. Each section is written to be read under pressure — short, direct, and current.
**WHAT THE SITE COVERS**
Statutory redundancy pay. How the calculation works, what the current weekly pay cap is, how age and length of service affect the figure, and what the £30,000 tax-free threshold means in practice.
Notice periods. The difference between statutory and contractual notice, what payment in lieu of notice (PILON) means, and how garden leave works.
The consultation process. What a fair redundancy consultation looks like, what your employer is required to do, and what it means if the process does not follow that sequence.
The redundancy letter. What a formal redundancy letter should contain, and what to do if key information is absent.
Settlement agreements. What they are, why employers offer them, and the basic questions to ask before signing anything.
Appeals. The grounds on which a redundancy decision can be appealed, and what a realistic outcome looks like.
After redundancy. What to do after the final day — Universal Credit, HMRC notification, pension, accrued holiday, and the order in which these matter.
**THE WEEK ONE PACK**
The site's primary resource is The Week One Pack, a set of three documents designed for the first seven days after redundancy notification.
The pack contains a day-by-day action checklist covering the sequence of steps most employees either miss or complete in the wrong order; a statutory rights reference card with current 2026 figures for quick reference; and an acknowledgement letter template for the employee to send to their employer within the first 48 hours — a step most people do not take, and most people should.
The pack is available for download via the site.
**WHO THIS IS FOR**
The Redundancy Brief is written for UK employees facing individual or small-scale redundancy — primarily those in permanent, salaried employment who have been notified that their role is at risk or confirmed redundant. It is not written for HR professionals or employers.
The information on the site is current as of time of writing. It is provided for reference and does not constitute legal advice. For complex or disputed redundancies, independent legal advice is recommended.
