About

Restoration Fabrics and Trims is your on-line source for exclusive high-end trade-only historically sensitive decorator fabrics & trims at budget sensitive prices. We specialize in period-appropriate new and new vintage fabrics and trims for historic homes and decorating styles from the 17th through mid-20th centuries, with a particular emphasis on Victorian and Arts & Crafts homes.

Restoration Fabrics & Trims is an outgrowth of our personal and professional interest in historical restoration and adaptation. Privately, we are currently restoring our 1880 Victorian home. Professionally, we specialize in helping others create livable yet historically sensitive rooms that are appropriate to both the style and period of the home as well as the owners’ lifestyles.

Our 20 years as decorators/consultants and our experience as long-time old-house owner/caretakers is reflected in our collections and in our guiding principle: to offer others who share our passion for fine fabrics and appreciation of value access to a wide selection of the finest available drapery and upholstery fabrics and trims from the world's most exclusive design houses at gentle below-wholesale discount prices.

As many owners of old houses (affectionately aka ''money pits'') discover, the painstaking work of historically sensitive renovation and restoration is made even slower by the search for and high costs of quality materials.  We have been able to find many resources for original and reproduction building materials, hardware, and fixtures, but there was no one offering a variety of period-appropriate damasks, brocades, embroideries, toiles, tapestries, velvets, silks, chintzes, and trims for upholstery, portieres, bedding, draperies, lampshades, and the like. And the cost of what we did find was often prohibitive.

Fortunately, we had access to decorator showrooms but it was time consuming and, even at wholesale prices, budget-breaking to find appropriate choices for our clients' homes (ranging from 1700s saltboxes to 1950-60s tract houses) as well as for our own.

Looking for an alternative, we began building an international network of the finest designers, fabric mills, suppliers and trade showrooms. We collected thousands of first quality over-runs, sale fabrics and trims, bolt ends, decorator remnants, discontinued yardage, and new vintage goods so we could create the perfect exquisitely appointed, detailed interiors that old homes (and their owner- caretakers) demand and deserve.

Design houses we carry include Scalamandre, Brunschwig et Fils, Clarence House, Kravet, Lee Jofa, Schumacher, Fabricut, JAB, Beacon Hill, Robert Allen, Lee Behrens Silks, Waterhouse, Thomas Strahan, Christopher Norman, Ramm, Cowtan and Tout, Pindler & Pindler, Stroheim & Romann, Bergamo, Morris & Co., Sanderson, and many others.

We work with our own established international network of resources and personally select each fabric we sell. We do not buy in lots and we do not buy (or sell) seconds or knock-offs. We offer only new (or new vintage) first quality high-end exclusive to-the-trade designer fabrics, passementerie (trims), wallpapers, and borders. Our professional obligation and personal commitment to honesty and fair pricing and our focus on outstanding customer service have contributed to our stellar reputation as decorators and (not your typical) e-tailers.

Through word of mouth and internet, the demand for our services (and our fabric collection) grew. We decided to try listing some of our finds on eBay and, thanks to like-minded spirits and fellow fabric addicts, Restoration Fabrics & Trims is now a world-wide resource with multiple sales outlets.
