About

On April 1st, 2011, James Beck gave away all his valuables and embarked upon a year-long volunteer journey of the United States. He traveled over 30,000 miles and visited each state in America, serving a person in every state for at least three days. No deed was too big or too small: farm work, speech writing, natural disaster aid, cleaning homes, a family business revamp, assistance for the Navajo people, and even babysitting.

This great adventure was accomplished without a savings account or a job. James accepted no money for his services, and the only caveat was that his recipients must "pay-it-forward." A majority of those whom James served were strangers; some were lifelong friends. The projects crossed religious, socioeconomic, cultural, and age barriers. Participants ranged from Baptist ministers to atheists, Tea Party advocates to far left wing supporters, from farmers to Harvard professors.

James called the mission ‘Serfbliss’. His initial time investment was the first step in creating a ‘Pay-it-Forward’ social experiment. Through his website www.Serfbliss.com James received referrals and posted videos of service.
