Dr. Michael Shaw - President

Dr. Shaw earned his doctorate degree in Management and Organizational Leadership. He has developed numerous leadership and management oriented workshops throughout his career and has extensive knowledge of e-learning technologies. He has managed several large-scale curriculum projects for the nation's largest online university and provides consulting services to one of the top publishing companies in the United States. Dr. Shaw continues his research in the areas of employee retention and plays an active role with all of SilkWeb's clients. Dr. Shaw has published many peer-reviewed articles on his own and in partnership with Dr. Thomas Schmidt. Dr Shaw has written about his leadership experience in higher education and corporate training for academia and his writing was recently included in the 3-Volume "E-Collaboration: Concepts, Methodologies, Tools, and Applications" published by IGI Global May 2009. Dr. Shaw's other contributions can be found in the following academic journals: International Journal of Information and Communication Technology EducationJournal of Leadership Studies, Association for the Advancement of Computing in Education, and the International Association for Development of the Information Society. Dr. Shaw was recently asked to submit an article on SilkWeb for University of Phoenix' academic journal for 2009-2010.

Laurel Silk, M.Ed. - Vice President

Laurel has managed e-learning initiatives at three leading online universities. She is a former training director who has worked with corporate training departments to deliver instructor-led and e-learning workshops in a variety of areas - leadership, finance, compliance, and soft skills. As an experienced instructional design expert she developed leadership focused doctoral programs in higher education, business, and nursing at one of the world's leading virtual universities. As vice president she oversees all instructional design projects, manages design personnel, and is the lead designer for all custom client projects. Laurel earned her Masters degree in Education with a focus on adult learning and instructional technology. Laurel recently presented a workshop in conjunction with Dr. Shaw at the E-Learn conference in Quebec City, Canada. The workshop, titled Designing Innovative Student-Centered Curriculum in e-Learning was well received by experts in the e-learning community. Recently Laurel has been involved in e-Learning initiatives in the transportation and autotmotive industries with clients from Subaru, Goodyear, BMW, Dunlop Tires, Love's Truck & Travel Stops, and Gemini Motor Transport.
