Started in 2008 by Sammy Mishriki, the cheap petrol project is a community based approach to help alleviate the every rising price of petrol and help New Zealanders so they have more money to spend on themselves and their families.
The concept was inspired by an e-mail forward that was circulating in 2005 that wanted people to buy petrol from only one company and therefore force the price down. While commendable in the millions of people it reached what was lacking was the lack of an central place to organize all of this from and thus the birth of The Cheap Petrol Project.
