About

The invisible wounds of war and service are often the ones that cut the deepest. They leave an indelible mark on the minds and hearts of our Veterans and First Responders—those who have selflessly answered the call to protect and serve our nation. Yet, despite their courage and sacrifice, many of these brave individuals grapple with a profound inner struggle, one that often goes unnoticed by the world around them.

It is a harrowing fact that each day, we tragically lose an average of 22 Veterans to suicide. This stark and alarming reality serves as a sobering reminder that the battles fought on the front lines do not always end when our servicemen and women return home. The scars of trauma, the challenges of untreated post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and the barriers to accessing mental health treatment through insurance often culminate in a crisis of mental and emotional distress among Veterans across the country.

In response to this urgent need, 22 Salute™ was born—a social enterprise that serves as a beacon of hope and a catalyst for positive change. Guided by a mission to give back, 22 Salute™ offers an exquisite line of Veteran-made Spirits and South Texas Mesquite Smoked coffee. Each product is crafted with care and dedication, bearing testament not only to impeccable quality but also to a commitment to making a difference in the lives of those who have served.

We, at 22 Salute™, pledge to donate a portion of our profits to The Veterans Connection™, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with a central focus on the mental health and suicide prevention of Veterans and First Responders. Through this partnership, we aim to provide essential resources, support, and hope to individuals and communities impacted by the invisible wounds of service.

WHY THIS MATTERS: The Silent Battle and the Path to Hope

In the shadows of valor and service, there lies a silent battle—a battle that rages within the hearts and minds of our nation's Veterans and First Responders. This battle, often unseen and unheard, carries a profound weight that takes a heavy toll on the lives of those who have dedicated themselves to the protection and well-being of our communities.

Tragically, this internal struggle is not without casualties. The harrowing reality is that each day, an average of 22 Veterans are lost to suicide, which amounts to an alarming 8,030 lives lost each year. To put this into perspective, every 90 minutes, we lose a Veteran to suicide—a devastating loss that sends shockwaves of pain and grief through families, friends, and communities.

The year 2020 alone bore witness to the magnitude of this crisis, as 9,855 US Veterans died by suicide, in stark contrast to the 1,934 who died while in Active Duty. These statistics are more than mere numbers; they represent the human lives impacted by the challenges of untreated post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

Alarmingly, since the 9/11 attack, 83% of US Veterans and active duty service members have experienced PTSD—a testament to the long-term impact that traumatic experiences can have on the psyche. First Responders, too, are not immune to this crisis, with suicide rates that are 10 times higher than that of the general population.

The urgency of this issue cannot be understated, and the call for help is being answered by countless individuals reaching out for support. The Veteran suicide hotline alone received 1.6 million calls in 2020, and this number is estimated to reach 2.3 million by the end of 2021.
