Prior to becoming an independent writer and consultant, Jim was a marketing writer for FirstEnergy Corporation, a diversified electric company serving 4.5 million customers. He also was editor of a national trade magazine covering the housewares/home furnishings industry. Jim was also an account executive at a Midwest advertising agency

He holds a B.A. in Journalism from Kent State University and was awarded Best Feature Writer in Ohio when he began his career as a newspaper reporter. He is a past president of the Cleveland Direct Marketing Association.
