Australia, June 2022 – Health & Wellbeing Training Consultants currently run behaviour change training programs for health, community and educational professionals. This particular training program focuses on motivational interviewing – a counselling style that can enhance your conversations with clients and can support them towards positive behaviour change.  

Motivational interviewing is a communication approach that facilitates behaviour change by helping clients to explore and resolve their ambivalence about changing a behaviour. It encourages clients to reflect on their current situation and a preferred one that is positive and healthy. Through deep and meaningful conversations, this collaborative approach can encourage clients who currently may be struggling with change or who are not interested, to start thinking about change ...

“Motivational interviewing is an evidence-based counselling approach that very much focuses solely on the client,” says training director Stavroula Zandes in an interview by RMIT University. She further adds that:  

“What we’re doing with motivational interviewing is really exploring that ambivalence, amplifying it, creating some discomfort to really propel people into thinking about change and to also start making change. Thus, strengthening the clients’ motivation for change since they’ll be the ones presenting the arguments for change.”

Some of the training sessions are held online, and others are held at the Docklands in Melbourne. There are shorter workshops available of 2.5hours duration (online), as well as more extensive programs running over one to two days.
