Swarmed is the world’s leading honey bee swarm reporting platform, connecting the public with local beekeepers to safely rescue and rehome swarms. Every year, hundreds of thousands of honey bee swarms emerge across North America. For homeowners, these swarms can be a public nuisance when they settle on buildings, vehicles, or businesses. For beekeepers, swarms are a critical opportunity to strengthen colonies and replace hives lost to high winter mortality. With hive losses exceeding 60 percent in some regions this year, swarms have become more important than ever for recovering healthy colonies.
Most beekeepers in North America are hobbyists. They manage only a few hives and often do not have an online presence, making them difficult to reach when swarms appear. Swarmed makes it simple to connect these beekeepers with swarm reports in real time, ensuring more colonies are rescued and safely rehomed.
Swarmed V3 introduces North America’s largest swarm response network and a data dashboard designed for beekeepers and associations. The platform offers a real-time swarm claiming system, predictive heatmaps, and tools that help coordinate responses and track outcomes. In addition to supporting swarm rescue, Swarmed collects citizen science data on swarm activity and behavior. This growing dataset not only improves our tools but also offers the potential to advance research on swarm dynamics, which remains one of the least understood areas of honey bee biology.
Swarmed works in partnership with beekeeping associations and nonprofits such as the Pollinator Partnership to improve pollinator health and support the beekeeping community.
