About

Chartered in 1948, Local 986 grew steadily during the post-World War II industrial expansion of Southern California. Under the capable leadership of M.E. “Andy” Anderson and Michael J. Riley the Local organized a wide variety of job classifications from parking lot attendants to airline pilots. For decades, this local union has been at the forefront of organizing new members and has assisted other local unions with their organizing campaigns. This dynamic growth and superior representation was noticed by other Locals who asked to merge into 986 in order to seek common goals and expanded opportunities.
