About

The Reel Awards TM

The Reel Awards was conceived in 1989 by industry pioneers Janna Joos of International Celebrity Images & Alana Joos of Entertainment Express.  They came up with the idea of producing an Awards Show for celebrity impersonators and look-alikes as a way of acknowledging their professional performances in the entertainment industry, as well as encouraging up and coming new talent.

HISTORICAL BACKGROUND  -  International Celebrity Images has been the host of The Reel Awards since its inception, with the first awards being given out in March of 1992 at historic Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel, the home of the first Academy Awards. They have been instrumental in offering well-deserved recognition to the wonderful entertainment value of celebrity impersonators, impressionists and look-alikes. Instead of the "Oscar," the award recipients receive the "Can" which is a film reel can, inscribed with the awards category and winner's name.

Each year The Reel Awards is held at a prominant venue.  In 2007 The Reel Awards moved to Las Vegas, home of many successful tribute artist shows with the event having been held at The Flamingo Hilton, The Imperial Palace, The Stratosphere and is currently slated for The Golden Nugget.

The Reel Awards is typically slated for the week prior to the Academy Awards each year and attracts large numbers of national and international media as reporters and photographers scramble to gather pre-Oscar press or quirky vignettes about iconic legends of TV, film, print, sports, politics and the music industry.

In conjunction with The Reel Awards there is also an impersonator convention surrounding the awards show that draws large numbers of look-alikes and tribute artists from around the world for showcase opportunities, seminars, networking, press interviews, and a chance to win the title of Vegas Tribute Idol.  Talent showcases feature both up and coming performers and seasoned professionals who are viewed by their peers as well as producers, directors, talent agents and industry professionals in the hopes of securing work contracts. Judges select the top five performers from the two-day talent showcase.  Each of the five winners receives a cash prize and a trophy plus the top two winners are invited in 2012 to perform at the Golden Nugget's "Country Superstars" show.
