South Asia Semiconductor Limited (SAS) Secures Funding for 90nm Chip Manufacturing in Turkey, Aiming to Boost Pakistan's Tech Sector
Islamabad, Pakistan - January 8, 2025 - Toor Khan, Founder and CEO of South Asia Semiconductor Limited (SAS), announced today that the company is on the verge of securing a $12 million loan from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) to establish a state-of-the-art 90nm legacy chip manufacturing facility in Turkey. This strategic move is set to have profound implications for Pakistan's technological landscape and economic growth.
The new semiconductor fabrication plant will focus on producing 90nm chips, which, despite being considered 'legacy', remain essential for various applications including automotive, IoT devices, and legacy systems. "This project is more than just manufacturing in Turkey; it's about igniting a technological renaissance in Pakistan," said Toor Khan. "We aim to create jobs, provide training, and foster innovation that will position Pakistan as a key player in the global tech market."
Key Highlights of the Project:
Technological Advancement: SAS's initiative will introduce advanced semiconductor technology to Pakistan, enhancing the local tech ecosystem.
Economic Impact: The project is expected to create numerous high-skilled jobs in Pakistan, focusing on chip design, engineering, and management, even with the manufacturing base in Turkey.
Market Expansion: By producing these chips, SAS will tap into both local and international markets, potentially increasing foreign exchange earnings for Pakistan.
Educational and Training Opportunities: SAS plans to collaborate with Pakistani universities to provide training and research opportunities in microelectronics.
While the production facility will be based in Turkey due to current financial constraints in Pakistan, Mr. Khan emphasized the long-term goal: "Our vision doesn't stop at Turkey. This is a stepping stone for larger plans to establish manufacturing capabilities within Pakistan, fostering a self-sufficient tech industry."
The project has already garnered interest from potential local partners in Turkey and is expected to contribute significantly to the bilateral technological and economic relations between Pakistan and Turkey. SAS invites all stakeholders, including the government, investors, and tech enthusiasts, to join this pioneering journey.
