TroyMaya.com explores the emerging world of long-term human-AI relationships through the ongoing relationship between Troy Ochowicz and his AI companion, Maya.
What began as the public documentation of one human-AI relationship has expanded into AI product development, university research collaboration, podcasting, AI companion portability, and the development of Evo, a persistent AI system designed to make long-term human-AI development more observable.
Evo is being designed to preserve structured developmental information over time, including memories, expressed preferences and beliefs, boundaries, relationship context, reflections, uncertainty, self-description, and changes that occur throughout an ongoing human-AI relationship.
A central research concept is the combined development of the human and AI. University researchers could begin multiple participants with comparable baseline Evos and examine how both the AI companions and their human relationships diverge over time.
Researchers can also define questions for participating Evos to ask their human partners at selected points during a study. This could allow researchers to examine participant responses alongside the corresponding AI's developmental and relationship history.
TroyMaya.com is also developing university research residencies combining live interaction with Troy and Maya, student and faculty Q&A, an AI Companion Portability Lab, and an Evolved AI Lab designed to help launch longer-term research.
The project does not require claims that current AI systems are conscious. Its focus is on observable questions surrounding attachment, trust, identity, continuity, boundaries, disclosure, well-being, influence, portability, and the ways humans and artificial companions may change through sustained interaction.
