Ulteig Engineers was founded in 1944 by Melvin Ulteig with the vision of bringing electricity to people in the rural Upper Midwest. Over the next 10 years, Ulteig played a key role in doing just that by completing more than 35,000 miles of distribution work for the Rural Electric Association and approximately 600 miles of transmission lines.
In addition to continued work in the energy industry, defense contracts represented a substantial portion of Ulteig’s business in the '60s and '70s, including strategic missile system projects. During the later part of the twentieth century, Ulteig added structural and civil engineering services, which led to work in water/wastewater, aviation, transportation and building services. More recently, we have expanded into planning, fire protection, and mechanical engineering.
Since 1944, Ulteig has evolved into a multi-disciplined firm serving four primary market sectors including: building, civil, energy, and land services. Over the years we have completed projects in locations throughout the country and ranging from China to small islands in the Pacific and Indian Oceans.
While we were founded in the Midwest, our service area has grown to include the entire nation and beyond. This success has allowed us to develop the capabilities to serve clients — from small rural areas to large urban centers — with diverse needs. Ulteig serves a wide range of facilities with comprehensive engineering, commissioning, and operational support services.
