World Mosaic was first established in the 1950’s by Eng Carlo delle Valle, an Italian who immigrated to Montreal in the hope of introducing Venetian glass to his new country, thus carrying on the centuries old tradition of glass craft and mosaic.
In 1974, he took this vision to Vancouver and World Mosaic (BC) was born, first opening its doors on 7th Avenue, where we are still located today and continue to hold dear the many values and traditions from which the company was founded.
With all that is new about tile – a lot of the properties that are enduring and loved are qualities that invoke a sense of humanity. Tile is an organic matter made of earth, water and fire, which is entwined with the history of civilization. Over the centuries tile has covered numerous types of surface – from the roofs of Chinese temples, to the floors of Renaissance buildings, even NASA chose to use it on the exterior of their space shuttle! Yet, even with new technology and tile manufacture becoming much faster, the basic formula has changed little over the centuries.
World Mosaic (BC) Ltd. is proud to be a part of the tile legacy, having provided tile to many of Vancouver’s landmarks and public spaces – the most well known being the BC Hydro Building on Burrard Street, presently known as Electra. More recent projects include the Chrysler showroom in Langley, Il Giardino’s restaurant patio and the Cactus Club Cafés.
