About

On Tuesday February 12, 2013 the IOC leaders dropped wrestling from the Olympic program, a surprise decision that removes one of the oldest Olympic sports from the 2020 Games. Wrestling goes back to the inaugural modern Olympics in Athens in 1896.

IOC spokesman Mark Adams said, "This is a process of renewing and renovating the program for the Olympics. In the view of the executive board, this was the best program for the Olympic Games in 2020. It's not a case of what's wrong with wrestling, it is what's right with the 25 core sports."

The significance of dropping wrestling from the Olympics has a far greater effect on the sport than you might think. Wrestling is not a sport of glory, fame and clearly not fortune. You ask any wrestler what their goal in the sport is or was at any given time and most if not all will say, WIN THE OLYMPICS! To take that way will have dire consequences on the sport and send a clear signal to all the Universities who are looking for a reason to continue dropping non-revenue sports to simply dismiss wrestling since it can't even make the cut of the top 25 core sports in the Olympics.

Wrestling has come to the ultimate crossroads of either throwing in the proverbial towel or standing up for what's right and showing the world why the oldest sport has survived the continuous beating.

It's time for the wrestling community from around the world to come together and show their resilience, strength and support. Let's show the IOC that even if we are down, we have the power, grit and stamina to stay the course and get the victory.
