Yoga Health Foundation
September marks a significant milestone in the “yoga for health” movement. It is the first official National Yoga Month (designated by the Department of Health & Human Services) designed to build awareness of yoga’s proven health benefits and provide people with actionable guidance and tools to better their own well-being.
Events are planned across the country, including:
- One week of free yoga - By going to www.yogamonth.org/yogamonthcard, people can find participating studios and teachers, print out the Yoga Month Card and redeem it for One Week of Free Yoga at locations in nearly every city across the country.
- Local Yoga Month events - Hundreds of yoga studios, teachers, individuals and event organizers will create free or donation-based National Yoga Month events in their city for everyone from those trying yoga for the first time to experienced yogis.
- The National Institutes of Health Mind-Body Week - To address the pervasive challenge of stress – and its adverse affects on health - this weeklong series of events, held in the nation’s capital, will provide resources to achieve personal wellness goals.
- Global Mala Yoga for Peace Celebration - On September 20, beginners and advanced yogis alike will gather in Los Angeles for four hours of yoga, raising both funds and consciousness for today’s most pressing issues.
- High level support - People and organizations from the likes of NIH to Mariel Hemingway are lending their support to National Yoga Month.
