America’s Snowboard Team® 2009 Backgrounder

America’s Snowboard Team® (AST) is an independent professional snowboard team in the United States created by athletes. Their mission is to raise the profile of alpine snowboarding and provide a premier training environment for Olympic hopefuls to qualify, and ultimately medal, at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, B.C.
AST is comprised of four U.S. National and World Cup Snowboard Champions, including:
•     Chris Klug, two-time U.S. Olympian and Olympic Bronze Medalist
•     Zac Kay, U.S. National Parallel Giant Slalom and Parallel Slalom Champion
•     Josh Wylie, U.S. Slalom Champion
•     Erica Mueller, U.S. National Parallel Giant Slalom Champion

Each athlete exemplifies the Olympic spirit and already has secured World Cup start positions for the upcoming Olympic qualifiers. The team members are united in pursuit of a common goal: qualifying and medaling in the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games.

While in pursuit of their Olympic dreams, AST team members will provide the public with an interactive, inside look on their journey to the 2010 Olympic Winter Games through their Web site, www.AmericasSnowboardTeam.com. They will chronicle their experiences and document their triumphs and challenges as they strive to secure a spot on Team USA. To join the ride and experience every turn along the way, visit www.AmericasSnowboardTeam.com.

During training and competitions, AST also will be riding with a humanitarian purpose in support of organ and tissue donation awareness through the Chris Klug Foundation (CKF). Founded by liver transplant recipient Chris Klug, CKF is dedicated to promoting organ and tissue donation and improving the quality of life for donors, transplant recipients and their families. All AST members support CKF and are registered organ and tissue donors.
