New Door Books was founded in 2009 to publish fiction that might be overlooked by commercial publishers. Its parent company, P.M. Gordon Associates, has been producing books for others since 1982.

Editorially, New Door Books is an offshoot of the Working Writers Group (WWG), a Philadelphia-area group of writers who have been meeting monthly since 1985.
