LPG Plants - Function & Sep-Pro Capabilities

LPG PLANT
LPG PLANT 2

Natural gas is a combination of several molecular components including methane (C1), ethane (C2), propane (C3), butane (C4) pentane (C5) and other heaver compounds. Commercial natural gas is mostly methane and is usually specified according to its heating value (Btu/Ft3).  It is often desirable and sometimes necessary to separate the heavier components (i.e. propane, butane, and pentane) using a thermodynamic cycle that liquefies these components and leaves the methane and ethane as a saleable gas with a heating value around 1,000 Btu/ Ft3.  The separated liquefied components can be further separated into pure propane, butane, naphtha, pentane, and heavier products.  These are value added components that are sold to various industries including petrochemical, refining, transportation, and manufacturing.  Sep-Pro Systems has several designs for LPG separation plants using mechanical refrigeration, direct expansion, turbo-expansion, or absorption refrigeration.

The process consists of a series of shell and tube heat exchangers, two and three phase separators, mechanical refrigeration compressors, and fractionation columns for separation of C1, C2, C3 and C4 into separate liquid products.  In many cases the incoming feed gas has to be de-hydrated and/or the sulfur compounds and carbon dioxide volumes reduced.  The process requires inter-connecting piping, a centralized electronic control system, power distribution, and pipe & vessel insulation.  Sep-Pro Systems designs the process using the latest process simulation software, equipment sizing software, and controls tuning.  If turbo expanders are used the mechanical energy is recovered for compression.

Sep-Pro Systems has the rare ability to manufacture its own ASME stamped vessels including shell and tube heat exchangers, separators, and fractionation columns.  In addition Sep-Pro Systems does its own process and control system design allowing for lower pricing and faster, more predictable delivery times.  Our fractionation trains use unique internals.  Lastly, we use a modular, skid mounted design that in many cases allow us to expedite delivery by using pre-manufactured components.
