The history of our NGO starts when our members were representatives in the Student councils of their universities. Our members are familiar with the management of the student hostels as they were representatives of the students in the social commitees of their universities. Our first common initiative dates from 2004-2005; by negotiating with the municipality, we preserved the old prices for the transportation cards for the students.
Our second initiative was the massive student's and lecturer's protest in 11 may 2007 with more than 3000 participats. This is the time when our original formation was established - PRIZIV; currently, PRIZIV is a separate student's movement which works in tight cooperation with SROKSOS. A lot of documentational initiatives followed - a petition to the EU( September 2008), reports to the Ministry Council, Ministry of Education and Science and the Municipality about the problems in the Student cities in Bulgaria (February-March 2008) - alarming about the low security levels, dangers for the youth, a large number of requests for information were issued; protection of the students' rights through legal assistance. In most of its documentation SROK-SOS alarms the governing bodies of the situation in student cities and the risks. A massive poll was conducted among 1000 students as well.
In may 2008 we expressed our disagreement with the incompetent ,ficticious and suspicious repairs (renewals) of the student blocks, as well as the unreasonable raise in the student apartment rents.
We requested information and sought responsibility from the guilty individuals responsible for the tragic death incident with a student who fell from block 54 (fallen/thrown from fourth floor of the block in Student city).
