Our Story: Two Jackies Walk Into a Spreadsheet…

It was a gray January day in 2009 when Jackie Shaw hit “send” on a job offer to Jackie Rockwell. What started as a professional relationship quickly grew into something more—a years-long mentorship, a deep friendship, and eventually, a mission-driven collaboration.

Jackie Shaw mentored Jackie Rockwell through her first job in the corporate world, taught her the ropes, and eventually brought her into the world of business ownership. Together, they built two thriving bookkeeping businesses—and found themselves completely maxed out on client work. By late 2021, they were turning away more clients than they could take.

That’s when Jackie Rockwell said the words that started it all:
“We need more qualified bookkeepers. Ones who we can trust to do this work as well as we do.”

The need was obvious. The path forward was clear.
And less than a year later, Brass Jacks was born.

By Fall 2022, the very first session of their signature course—Bookkeeping Foundations—sold out. The response? Overwhelmingly positive. Students were thrilled to finally find a course that bridged the gap between accounting theory and real-world application. And a community where they didn’t feel behind or invisible.

Brass Jacks is built for bookkeepers who:

- Have been in the industry less than five years
- Recently started their own bookkeeping business (typically within the past six months)
- Are eager to upskill but overwhelmed by where to start
- Feel self-taught, semi-confident, and stuck between “I’m good at this” and “Am I doing this right?”

We meet our students where they are, and help them go farther, faster.
