About

Named after The Schuylkill River (Dutch for "Hidden River") which runs through Pennsylvania in the U.S., Hidden River Arts is committed to "Serving the Underserved Artist".  Always searching for the Outsider Artist, the organization is eager to offer supports for creative people at all stages of their artistic development.

Not all artists are fired in the kiln of university programs, and Hidden River wants to provide encouragement and assistance, as well as exposure, to the artist who is working independently - the solitary artist who lacks the network or the audience, who requires a community, and who would benefit from the many ways Hidden River supports and celebrates the creative person.

Some of the programs available through Hidden River are a fiction and drama competition offered yearly.  This competition provides $1000 in each winning category as well as publication and a public reading.  Hidden River also maintains an independent small press for the publication of literary work.  Outreach is an important part of the Hidden River mission, and includes workshops, classes, tutorials, residencies - both in person and online, by phone or by mail.  Hidden River Arts Live provides open mic/reading series as well as Hidden River Salon, with gallery openings and performing arts events.  Hidden River also occasionally acts as producer of other artistic endeavors, including theatrical and film projects.  Hidden River Review is about to launch.  This is an online arts review which will provide a showcase for artists in all disciplines, and which will be the virtual version of the Hidden River Salon.

Hidden River is located in the United States, in Pennsylvania.  But we are always eager to partner with artists and arts organizations internationally in order to expand the reach of those organizations and our own to new audiences.
