About

Meals On Wheels West (MOWW) provides nutritious hand-delivered meals to those who cannot shop, cook or otherwise provide for themselves due to illness, disability, age, poverty, or temporary lack of mobility. 86,000 meals were delivered in 2011 by more than 400 volunteers. Along with the meals, volunteers deliver a local newspaper, fresh fruit from the Farmer’s Market, a three-day emergency food kit, holiday greetings and gifts, and a smile. MOWW provides daily social contact and a non-intrusive check on isolated residents' wellbeing. Our intervention has saved lives!

The nutritious meals, prepared by licensed dietitians according to doctor’s orders (low sodium, diabetic, etc.), improve the health of seniors, helping them maintain their weight while reducing the number of visits to the emergency room. Regular healthy meals empower clients to age in place. MOWW can feed an individual for a year ($2190) for the cost of a single day in the hospital. Clients receive 2 meals per day for $6.00. In 2011, 40% of the clients did not pay.
