Why I Believe in My American Goods
A note from Linda Rosenthal, co-founder and writer at My American Goods
I’ve always believed that what we surround ourselves with—the things we use every day—should mean something. Not just serve a function, but carry a story. Maybe it’s the writer in me, but I’ve never been satisfied with “just stuff.” I want to know who made it, where it came from, and why it was made that way. That’s why we started My American Goods.
This shop is a reflection of everything we care about: quality, simplicity, integrity, and pride in the people who still make things the right way. We built this place for folks like us—people who want to buy better, live slower, and support American businesses that still believe in craftsmanship.
What We’re Doing Here
My American Goods isn’t trying to be the next giant online marketplace. We’re not chasing trends or algorithms. We’re curating a collection of honest goods from American makers—some iconic, some new, but all grounded in something real. We look for products made by people who care. People who show up every day to make things well.
We carry everything from small-batch skincare to barbershop pomade, pantry staples to herbal tea, rugged leather goods to travel-ready grooming kits. Some items are made by family-run businesses that have been around for generations. Others come from newer companies doing things differently—more sustainably, more thoughtfully, more locally.
If it’s on our site, it’s there because we believe in it.
Why American Goods?
We’re not waving flags to sell products. But we do believe there’s something worth preserving in the American tradition of hands-on, high-quality work. There’s dignity in that. Whether it’s a jar of herbal salve made in Appalachia, a block of natural soap from a Vermont farm, or a small-batch beard oil from a Brooklyn barber—these things matter.
When you buy American goods, you’re not just keeping dollars here. You’re helping small towns, creative people, and independent businesses thrive. You’re voting for resilience over convenience. For craftsmanship over mass production. For people over platforms.
How We Choose What to Carry
Everything we carry is American-owned. Many products are also made here, though sometimes ingredients (like tea leaves or cacao) come from elsewhere—that’s just the nature of the world. But every blend, every formula, every design is done by American hands and minds. And we like that.
We also favor:
Natural ingredients over chemical junk
Reusable packaging when possible
Ethical sourcing and small-batch production
Companies that give back or support their local communities
We dig deep. We read labels, call founders, and test things out ourselves. If something’s in our home, our shower, our travel bag—it might end up in the shop. But only if it earns its place.
Who This Is For
You don’t have to be a purist to appreciate what we do. Maybe you’re just tired of cheap plastic breaking on you. Maybe you want a better cup of tea or a balm that actually works. Maybe you’re looking for a gift that says “I thought about this.” Maybe you want to feel good about where your money goes.
If any of that sounds familiar, you’re in the right place.
The Feel of the Site
We’ve tried to make My American Goods feel like a general store crossed with a modern apothecary, with a bit of that farmer’s market spirit and a splash of old-school barbershop cool. Everything’s curated, organized, and presented with clarity. No fluff, no noise. Just good goods.
You’ll find a balance here: some practical, everyday items and some things you’ll want to slow down and savor. Whether you’re packing for a trip, building a better skincare routine, or just looking for something made with heart, we’ve got you covered.
A Personal Note
My husband Randy and I run this business together. We write the blog ourselves, test the products, talk to the makers, and we talk to our customers. This is not a faceless operation—it’s our passion project, and it’s deeply personal. We’ve put our values into every page of this shop.
We’re not trying to sell you a lifestyle. We’re just offering you a collection of things we believe in—made by Americans who are doing good, honest work.
Thank You
Thanks for finding us. Thanks for supporting small business. Thanks for choosing to shop a little more meaningfully. We hope you enjoy these goods as much as we do.
And if you ever have a question, just ask. We’re real people. We’ll write you back.
