About

Dave believes everyone deserves to work with a great leader and that too often we complicate the development processes for them. Convinced that leaders have a direct impact on the culture of the organization, Dave is intentional in helping them foster an environment where people want to work, do their best, and get results.
After spending more than 20 years in HR working in the automotive, pharmaceutical, and wood products manufacturing industries, Dave knows what truly drives organizational culture, workforce engagement, and employee retention — and it’s not compensation and benefits. It’s the quality of the leadership at all levels and how they connect, communicate, and support their team members in getting results.
Having worked in manufacturing front-line management, Dave experienced first-hand the downstream effects and opportunities for the HR function to enhance its’ contribution. He knows about “swimming in the stream he helped pollute”, for which he attributes much of his HR success to what he learned during that time.
Dave successfully led the HR function in a greenfield plant start-up, and intentionally spent time in front-line manufacturing leadership to gain a broader business perspective. As an HR leader, his achievements include recognition as a benchmark site for positive employee relations and employer of choice within the company, community, and state. He has led cost reduction efforts, assisted with site selection and facility closure, and successfully restructured compensation systems to control the loaded wage rate.
As an expert in site leader selection and transition, he also knows what it takes to get results, even in hard times when cost reduction is a priority. He has led both workforce reductions and expansions from 150 to a 750+ workforce, including a hybrid workforce model to reduce the over-all loaded wage rate by $7/hour, with an annualized labor cost savings of more than $4M/year.
As a finalist for the 2010 SC HR Professional of the Year award, he has led the achievement of numerous manufacturing awards in SC as an employer of choice relative to culture workplace practices.
Dave is an ICF certified coach, and credentialed HR professional. In addition to holding the SHRM-SCP and SPHR designations, Dave holds a master’s degree in I/O Psychology from the University of TN – Chattanooga and has also taught HR courses at Anderson University as an adjunct teacher.
