Vantix Ltd has developed an underlying platform technology that can be adapted for sensitive and rapid testing in a range of sectors including medical, veterinary and environmental.

Existing immuno, enzyme and DNA tests can be modified for use with the VantixTM platform allowing tests traditionally taking several hours or more to be performed in minutes.

Assays are extensively used within medical and environmental fields for measuring the activity of a drug, or presence of disease, in an organism or organic sample.

Vantix has based its approach on a well-proven technique – enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) – which is a diagnostic tool widely used in medicine and plant pathology.  In this process, antibodies which can capture the substance being detected are first attached to the VantixTM biosensor.  The biosensor is then placed into sample being tested.  The target substance within the sample is captured by the biosensor and the remaining sample is washed away.  A second antibody (linked to an enzyme) is introduced which also binds to the captured substance.  Lastly, a chemical is introduced which the enzyme is able to convert.  In traditional ELISA tests the signal is a change of colour that can be measured optically and correlated to the amount of substance present

The advantage of the VantixTM biosensors over the traditional approach is that an electrical signal is generated rather than a change in colour.  This is easier and quicker to detect and provides a digital reading, which is unambiguous and can be stored along with the sample details.  Using VantixTM biosensors accelerates the tests, makes them more sensitive and reduces operator error.  Tested based on the VantixTM biosensor platform have been shown to be robust, reproducible and very fast to perform.

Existing assays can be easily modified to run on VantixTM.  Many of the processes required in the traditional ELISA, such as sample preparation and lengthy incubation, are not required, and the result is a more accurate and faster result.

ELISA has wide applications in diagnostics, drug development, toxicology and in the food industry.  All of these assays can also be run on VantixTM.
